Staying cool on a hot day isn’t hard if you plan it right. Long, lazy days and warm nights are perfect for summer soirees with friends. Find fresh seasonal produce in winery restaurants, or sweet and savoury treats in eclectic cafes.
There is always something delicious to eat and great places to go.
Sensational Swimming Spots
On a hot day, the white sand and aqua-blue shallow waters of Port Phillip beaches beckon enticingly, and with some of the best beaches going around there are many to choose from. But don’t dismiss the quieter and more natural beaches of Western Port; Flinders, Merricks, Balnarring, or Somers. Whichever you choose, make sure you go early (or late) to avoid the more extreme temperatures in the middle of the day and be Sunsmart. This leaves plenty of time to explore a little further.
Cool brews
Picture this: sitting under the trees with the fragrance of apples on the breeze sipping a long cool glass of cider, or finding a new favourite local pint at one of half a dozen Mornington Peninsula breweries. There’s plenty of interesting (and refreshing) local brews to discover on the Beer, Cider and Spirits Trail and it sure goes down a treat on a summers day. Of course, as the sun goes down there are cool little bars (and icy cocktails) to discover – at the Flinders Hotel
A Bit of Summer Retail Therapy
Breakfast is sorted by an early jaunt around a market, plus you can do a spot of shopping for fresh produce, handmade clothes, unique jewellery or locally made art pieces. Once the day warms up, hunt out some vintage, retro or antiques or some browse (air-conditioned) fashion boutiques, art galleries or designer homewares in any number of small towns and villages across the region.
Cool Off in a Café
Mmmmm…. iced coffee, iced chocolate, milkshakes, tall glasses of iced lemonade or a blast-from-the-past frothy ‘spider’ lemonade + ice-cream combo. Mornington Peninsula cafés can deliver all this and more.
Think; farm-made ice-cream in a cone, dixie tub, or ice-cream sundaes so big you need two people to eat them. Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm has it all!
