Time seems to be passing by so quickly, your kids were once babies, and now you have tweens! With school holidays on the horizon, your tweens are too cool for playgrounds that were once your saviour. What do you do to get them to unplug from devices and get down for some good old family fun?
The Mornington Peninsula has some great options for the perfect short stay with your tween to create memories they will tell their own kids about in years to come. The following short stay combines some great places to stay, and depending on the weather, you can mix and change the days as you please.
Day One
Ease your way into your school holiday getaway with a leisurely 72km (from Melbourne CBD) drive.
The purse strings always take a hit on holiday. However, not everything we do has to test the budget. The Briars located in Mount Martha has free entry and is a beautiful place to visit. You can do walks around the property and through the wildlife sanctuary. There is a bbq area and cafe on-site to refuel your family too. They often have programs to entertain over the school holidays, so make sure you check what’s on when planning your trip.
Check what time you can arrive to your accommodation so that you can also spend time exploring the surrounding area to where you are staying.
Treat the kids to a night out at the drive-in. The old-fashioned experience of movies and popcorn under a blanket in the car watching the latest flick is always memorable. The Dromana 3 Drive-in runs earlier sessions with age-appropriate films starting at 6.30 or 7 PM. You may miss your bedtime, but that is half the fun of holidays; the everyday routine can be relaxed – so pack the kids, the pillows, snacks and blankets and head out for the night.
Day Two
Share the adventure with your daredevil tweens and spend hours of fun in the great outdoors tree-top climbing, zip-lining, swinging off the giant Tarzan swing and tube sliding. Do they get their daredevil side from you, and will you be joining them in all the fun? You are sure to have an enjoyable day out with your tweens at Enchanted Adventure Garden – with loads of laughs
Day Three
How long has it been since you have jumped on two wheels and taken a ride? Be sure to Bring the bikes, but don’t worry if you forget, Bayplay Adventures has bicycles for hire. Point Nepean is a great place to ride; you can pack a picnic as there are some great picnic spots. A great reason to go to Point Nepean is that whilst you are out having family fun, this place is full of history and tunnels from World War II. Your tweens will have the opportunity to learn a thing or two about our local history and will have fun at the same time. It's a win-win.
The quintessential Mornington Peninsula experience the entire family will revel in. The Peninsula Hot Springs has over 70 bathing and wellness experiences, so there is plenty of choices where you can find your own piece of paradise to relax and escape. A perfect activity to end the day after that excellent bike ride this morning.
Where to stay?
There are many great options to stay in holiday homes, hotels, and apartments are aplenty, but here are just three we think would please even the pickiest of tweens.
This little oasis of glamping tents is perfect for a night under the stars set in the hinterland. You can even hire your own private firepit. Toasted marshmallows and hot chocolates are a delicious treat enjoyed at any age. There are currently 16 glamping tents on-site, and over holidays are filled with families, and your tween may make a friend or two with other like-minded families breaking out of their every day and escaping just like you.
RACV have thought of everything with this resort: indoor pool, games room and casual dining. With adjoining rooms available for families, you may wish to sneak off and get some me-time on the golf course, for the golfer in the family or at One Spa, the RACV's in-house spa and wellness centre. This resort will definitely not disappoint anyone on a stay as you are all catered for.
We hope we have given you just a taste of the activities to keep the discerning tween in your life unplugged and dialled into some great family fun.
