Established in 2003, the Western Port Biosphere Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation connecting people and nature to foster a positive future. As one of five UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserves in Australia, it demonstrates how biodiversity conservation and sustainable development can coexist globally.
The Foundation leads projects that restore habitats, build climate resilience, and protect ecosystems like wetlands, mangroves, and woodlands. These efforts balance ecological health with community wellbeing.
Collaborating with First Nations representatives, government agencies, scientific institutions, and community groups, we deliver innovative solutions that benefit the environment and local communities. Strong governance and sustainable practices underpin our success.
Located an hour from Melbourne, the Western Port Biosphere Reserve is a sanctuary for biodiversity and a model for sustainable living. It honours the cultural and natural heritage of Bunurong/Boon Wurrung Country, ensuring a thriving future where nature and culture flourish as one.
