This large section of the Western Port Bay Trail travels from the edge of the small township of Bittern, out to Somers and then straight into the heart of Balnarring. These quiet Western Port towns are beautiful examples of the more peaceful side of the Mornington Peninsula. The trail starts at the northern end of South Beach Road in Bittern and heads south east towards Somers. It turns west onto Sandy Point Rd and follows it through to the small village of Balnarring. This trail finishes at Frankston-Flinders Road in the heart of Balnarring at a playground with BBQs and public toilets. Here there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to find a coffee and a bite to eat.
This trail is the most southern section of the 27km Western Port Bay Trail that runs from Somerville to Balnarring. It connects to the Somers Trail to the north. You can also add on a loop by continuing to the end of South Beach Road and along Parklands Ave to Lord Somers Road that will take you past the fascinating property Coolart Wetlands and Homestead national park with bird hides and a historic mansion.
