The Mornington Peninsula is an exciting region for winemakers to express the terroir of their diverse sites. This allows the various characters of wine to almost match the landscape. Pinot Noir is perhaps the best grape to express this and the region is very fortunate to have all the qualities to make a truly great selection of interesting and expressive wines. The principle varieties and most successful styles are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which flourish in the Peninsula's conditions. Though introduced to the region more recently, pinot gris has built a strong reputation for quality and regional distinction. Almost 50% of plantings are Pinot Noir, around 25% Chardonnay, 11% Pinot Gris/Grigio and a diverse range of other varieties suited to specific sites, including Shiraz, as you will see as you tour our region.
